Day 23: The Blood Medley

For those unfamiliar with Smoke on the Mountain, it is a play about a family who does a traveling church.  The whole story is told through the help of hymns.  The Blood Medley is made up of four hymns: Nothing but the Blood of Jesus, The Blood of the Lamb, Power in the Blood and There is a Fount.

Blood.  In Anatomy I learned this: It is a connective tissue.  It delivers oxygen and nutrients to different parts of our bodies.  If you have ever broken a bone, you will find it takes a fair amount of time to heal, but the process is supported by the network of vessels that have access to the bone.  If you have ever torn cartilage, you will find that it takes a considerable amount of time to heal because there are no vessels that have access to it.  It is blood that brings nutrients and heals.

In Organic Chemistry I learned this: If you look at the molecular structures of the compounds that allow us to smell orange fragrance and lemon fragrance, there is only one small difference.  It is the orientation of a bond on the structure that is the small difference with a significant outcome.

I am constantly amazed at the places that I find God.  Just when I think I have stepped out of bounds -that His love and His ways have a end zone, He proves me wrong.  I have found His incredible intricacy in creation by looking at the human body.  When we are described as fearfully and wonderfully made, it is the truth.  It is no coincidence that blood is a tissue that heals when His blood was shed to heal our hearts.  He thought of that.  He cares enough to put the detail in.  He cares enough to orient a bond one way and not the other.  He thought of that.

The Blood Medley was simply a segue into my fascination with anatomy and God's care and thought in creating us.  However, it is a fun medley of songs.  We are blessed by a creator who took the time to design each one of us.  To run a network of veins and arteries through our body.  To give us hands and feet for His service.  To open up our chests and place a heart inside so we could know what it is to love, and feel the love He has for us.
