Day 19: All My Fountains

All My Fountains is one of my favorite songs that we sing at my church here in Bloomington.  The end of the chorus proclaims this:
All my fountains are in You

As followers of Christ, we are called to give ourselves away.  Jesus uses the example of  a woman who gives her last penny; He tells us to lose our lives for Him.

What does God want from me?  We often talk about three sectors in church - time, treasures and talents.  I have heard it before and am reminded constantly in church.  But this I have come to know too - God wants much more than that.  God wants our hearts.  He wants our hearts to be in everything that we do.  If I go to a food pantry and simply stock the shelves and leave, I haven't given anything.  He wants my heart to be in it.  If I sit in my Sunday school class, just trying to fill time for the kids, I have given them no time.  He wants me to be present with them - He wants my heart to be in it.

God wants our hearts. He wants everything that we are.  He wants it out of genuineness and sincerity.  He wants all of our fountains - everything that flows forth from us to be given to Him.  He has made an abundant fount available to us - as the song says: "A flood for my soul, a well that never will run dry."  God gives in abundance.  He gives with sincerity.  That is what He wants from His children.  God will take your heart in any way that it comes.  He will take contrite hearts and broken spirits (Psalm 51:17).  He has prepared the table, all He wants you to do is come and sit.  He gave all that He is, and He wants all that we are.
