Day 22: Here is Our King

Yesterday I talked about how God knows exactly what we need.  That can come in so many different forms.  There is something else that God knew we needed.  He knew exactly how to send Him.

The lyrics to this song say this:
Here is our King
Here is our Love
Here is the One who's come to bring us back to Him
He is the one, He is Jesus

I learned last spring in my Hebrew Bible class about the Messiah that was expected in the Old Testament.  God's people were waiting for this warrior, this great and powerful king that would come for them.  They were laying in wait for this majestic savior to be packaged in great glory and armor that would deliver them to salvation.

We head into the New Testament and we see a baby lying in a manger.  God's people are told that this is their savior.  This vulnerable baby on a bed of straw is going to deliver God's people to salvation.  When they looked at Jesus that night, they couldn't see a few decades ahead, who He would come to be.  It was all in God's plan - God knew Jesus was who we needed, and He knew that this was the way to send Him.

Sometimes I stop and reflect on who Jesus is, because He is so many things.  He is a friend, and has shown me how to be a friend.  He is a role model - He is someone I want to model my life after.  He was radical and abounding with humility.  He was a friend and teacher to so many.  He worked.  He spent time with His family.  He lived a life focused on His Heavenly Father.  He showed us what a relationship with our Father looks like.  He was the ultimate depiction of selflessness.

God knew that we needed Jesus.  Jesus knew too.  He knew what He had to do for His people.  Sometimes God packages things in ways that we don't understand.  We have trouble recognizing what He has given to us.  He said Here is your King, and He gave us a baby in a manger, who became a man on a cross that laid down His life so that we might find ours.
